Um, Christians, I'm turning to you here. Where the hell did they come up with this bullshit? I don't know whether to laugh or throw something at these guys. That's the first time I've ever seen us called "retards" by any denomination of any faith. Uh, apparently, he forgot that many blind Christians use it to read, oh, I donno, The Bible? And removing our hands? I'm literally speechless right now. the other posts are just stupid and downright laughable for their insanity. Oh, and do be careful of that braille paper. questian. if your a christian, why were you looking for a weegy board in the first place? religious people don't usually look for things like that, or believe in such things, so i find it odd that you as a christian even wanted to find one. i kno people have the right to look for whatever they want, but my experience with religious people, (mostly born again), is that thoes things are compleet no-no's.
Um, wow? that's all I can say here. First, Liz, I don't think Tifanitsa has ever claimed to be a Christian, thus she would have no reason not to look for a Ouija board . OK, that was badly written, but I'm too tired to make it make more sense.
I am a Christian, have been for years, and have never seen anything as absolutely ridiculous as this. Tifannitsa, you said you were turning to Christians to know where they got this, and truth is, I have no idea whatsoever! I went to a conservative Bible college, and never encountered anything remotely like this, nor do I even see a Biblical basis for something like this. Sounds to me like a bunch of idiots spouting off about things they don't know, lending credence to the stereotype of the ignorant and judgmental Christian. Fools like this give the rest of us a bad name. that's what makes me mad more than anything else does. I guess all I can say is that by writing stuff like this and making the claims they are, I personally believe they will, in the end, be judged by God for their idiocy and hatred.
Although I must admit, this is so over the top, that I can't help but wonder if someone isn't just posting crap like this for some kind of sick, perverted joke, to get a rise out of people? I have no idea. All I know is, that I, too, was somewhere between pissed, and highly amused.

It really didn't make me mad, it was too dumb to do so. I had the same thought as Alicia, about someone just posting to see reactions, but who really knows? It's just stupidity in my mind, and maybe it's just me, but I didn't find anything to be angry about in there, the whole thing was just so crazy.

I am a Christian too, but I would point out that all Christians are "Christian" in their own way. This is completely off topic of the original post, but still.
You hopefully will have more experience with people then just the experiences you've had, bc some of us are actually more inclusive of other beliefs, religions (or atheists) for example, homosexuals, etc. Some of us just believe that being Christian means treating others as you would want to be treated, & trying to help others in any way you can, no matter what.
As to the original topic, I haven't even looked at the page itself, based on what others have said, I know it'd piss me off & I'd end up having to drop my Christianness for a second to go commit some justifiables! (sigh)
Agreed with Bri and Lory. There was nothing at all about it that made me angry or offended or anything, it was just really kind of hilarious. Especially: "Is it a coincidence that Braille was invented by a cheese eating surrender monkey?" Dunno why but, that made me laugh, a lot. Lol I can't see anyone actually taking any of that seriously, even the people who wrote it, and the tone of some of the comments was just ... like they were laughing as hard while writing them as I was while reading.

okay first, if the ariginal poster isn't a christian, sorry, and the christians i have experience with, it's because of how hard-core they believe, that i don't have a thing to do with them now. second, i, like a few others didn't see anything to get angry or pissed off about. this was indeed funny, but Michael does have a point. however, it's not that down grading to us blind people if some of us can see the funny side of it.
Well I don't believe in the devil or hell or anything like that, but what pissed me off was the bullshit of blind people being called retards, perverted blind bastards, and about the HP books... I know some churches burned the books... It seems to me like they're the ones possessed by evil spirits, if they think blind people should have their hands removed... Blind people are just faking it, right... There's no point in trying to teach blind people... If he's blind, how can he read the computer screen... Being cursed by blindness... Since when is blindness a damn curse?

I simply cannot believe that such ridiculous assertions are even tolerated on this forum. I could not contain my astonishment when I read about braille being a devil's language, and worse, that disabilities make people susceptible to the devil's control. Let me dispel these ignorant and unsubstantiated claims.
I have been completely blind since I was 6 months old. The method of writing that you call the devil's work, the insightful code created by Louis Braille, has empowered me by allowing me to indulge in the world of literacy as do my sighted counterparts. Because of braille, I have learned to spell and write as well as the creator of this thoughtless post. I am now currently in the process of acquiring an undergraduate degree at a university. Though technology has advanced steadily and can now accommodate the blind, it is because of braille that I acquired a love of books and reading. I cannot stress how important braille literacy is for blind children.
Braille is not a "secret code" of any kind. The person who wrote this post is utterly ignorant of what braille actually is. If you give me something to read in braille, and you read the print equivalent of the exact same text, we would be reading exactly the same thing. You have only to take the trouble to learn braille and you'd realize that we use the same alphabet system that you do.
Once again, this post has thoroughly disgusted me. I haven't any more words to articulate my shock upon reading this garbage. You should really be ashamed of yourself for having written it. I think that all disabled people deserve an apology from you, because we are no more susceptible to demons than you are. This is the most thoughtless, stupid piece of writing I have read in a long, long time.

And I know not all are, because I obviously have good friends who are Christian and blind and know that post is just a load of crap, but I guess I just hate shit about people with disabilities being posted anywhere. I mean, some people without disabilities already feel uncomfortable around others who are blind or deaf or whatever without stupid pages like that being posted...

Let me set everyone's mind to rest. I've been to that site before and it is a total spoof and parody of fundamentalist Christianity. Please, please do not take it seriously. These guys are pulling your leg.
And who are you to judge? The thing about these people is that there sitting there judging people just because they are blind. I don't care if it was a joke or not, it can still be offensive. Nobody will sit there and judge me for my blindness, and if I hear somebody doing that, I will get angry. You have to realize that blindness is not necessarily a curse; it can actually be a blessing, if you think about it. This topic is really disgusting and rude.
Most of those posts are jokes, I would say the entire community is.
But someone did get a bit nasty there at the very end with that: you can't read, you're blind thing.
So, to make things short, the only reason why things like this are offensive, are because of a single jerk that gets out of character and decides he or she will get personal.

I was also angered by this thread. I don't care whether it's a joke or not, there is some really offensive, ridiculous, and ignorant snozshwazsh in those posts. Yes, some of this was very amusing, but if this is a joke, who came up with the idea for it? While it's hard to believe anyone could possibly take this crap seriously, it wouldn't be surprising to know that some ignorant jackhole believed in this theory fully. Joke or not, I highly disapprove of this. Things such as those posted should not be said about any group of people. This was extremely insensitive, inconsiderate, ignorant, and immature.

Well said, Turricane. That is true, they do have the right to say it, just as we have the right to laugh at it, or be pissed at it, or whatever emotion comes up.
And Godzilla, you said the same thing a sighted friend of mine told me late last night, that she believe the site is a deliberate spoof. In that case, I have to admit a little bit of anger at what it's making fun of, as most christians are nothing like that at all. But going back to Turricane's point, as much as it pisses me off that Christians get made fun of that way, or people with disabilities get made fun of that way, they're free to do it. Again, when I read that, I can't decide whether to be mad on a couple levels, or just laugh my ass off. I think I do both.
I would just make this one point, and please, no one take offense, I mean only to give you food for thaught, not to insult anyone.
think, if this is a joke, and after I read the idea that we are sending the devil messages in morse code by tapping our canes, I would agree, why are we required to sit back and say, "ok its a joke, no offense"? I understand joking, I love a good joke as much as the next person, and they are even better if they have some taboo quality to them. but I ask this, if this thread were not about blind people, if it were about say, black people, or hispanic people, or asians, or some other race of humanity, how many zeroes would there be in the law suit?
Why is it that we are required to laugh it off, why can't we get angry about it. I for one did not see anything on that page saying it was a joke, in fact it looked quite real.
So why are we told to laugh it off, when if it were any other group of people, any other minority, it would be a national law suit, and probably commented on by the president, and someone would be having beers at the white house right now.

I've been in a Baptist church before, and the church I was at never judged me about Braille. I had my Braille Bible at that time, and I enjoyed reading it. There is nothing in the Bible that says that Braille is the devil's morse code. Thus, this is just out of their own convictions, and they are also lying.
I won't even bother looking at that webpage, cause I have better things to do with my life than let stuff like this bother me. yes it's a shame people would do such a thing, but there are bigger fish to fry.
i agree with Cody's post, and i think that we laugh it off because if we didn't we'd all be the in mates of the funny farm. i kno we shouldn't be expected to do it,. but at the same time, i don't think that it's up to us as a group to show sighted people that being blind is a bad thing, or something that the devil is behind either. we can't control other people's appinions of blindness, because it's not ours to control. all we can do is try and show that we as individuals are capable people and hope that sighted people around us see that we aren't the devil's children or anything like that.
i'm not saying that what that sight did isn't bad or doesn't put blind people down, but we can't waste our time and energy being angry over something that someone else wrote, because, that's exactly what they want us to do. think about it, whoever wrote that, wants us to jump up and down and scream and shout that it's nasty, wrong, afencive, etc. wich is why i said what i did in my last post. even if it is just a joke, wich it looks like it is, then getting pissed off and angry is playing right in to their hands, and it also shows that blind people in general can't take a joke, wich we all kno isn't true at all. we all love a good joke as much as a sighted person, or a black person etc, but i guess it's up to the individual person to decide to see it as a joke, or take it to heart, and i'm sorry, no afence, but if you took this crap to heart, and can't or won't see anything funny about it, then you've just given the authors of that sight exactly what they wanted.

Some things are just not meant to be joked about. Races, religions, diseases etc fall into this category (in my personal opinion).

unfortunetly, races, diseases, religins are joked about, like it or not...it's the world we live in and it's sad that people choose to make fun of serious matters. however, that's not our problem if someone chooses to do that. all we can do is try and live our lives the way we want, and choose for ourselves what our appinions and beliefs are. we as blind people have enough to deal with in our day to day lives as it is, without worrying about what the whole world thinks of us, and it's not just us, it's all other groups of people to. we can't always scream and shout about things we kno we don't have control over, only try in our own way to show that we as an individual person, aren't a certain way, because if we can do that in our own lives, then why does it even matter what a stranger thinks of us? sure, be mad, be angry, be whatever, but this is just a sight on the internet we're talking about. if someone wants to report it then go do so, noone is stopping you or can stop you from doing that.
Well, that's my opinion on it, so if I feel like sharing it I will. I hold my tongue when I think it's necessary & don't when I don't.
Lots of people feel the way you do, but it's my HUMBLE opinion, that if more people (people, period, not blind, sighted, or whatever), but if more people stood up & refused to tolerate such behavior from others, then it would stop. You know, it's the constant question of, where do we draw the line on such matters? & noone has a firm answer on it because everything isn't black & white, there's to many darned shades of grey in everything these days.
But me personally, I don't agree with it, I won't laugh about it because it isn't funny to me, & I won't hold my tongue on an issue that is important to me. I've never been one to back down from a controversial viewpoint, & I won't now.
I tend to agree more with Cody. This really makes me angry, although at the same time it amuses me that the people posting up on the forum can't even think about things with a bit of common sense.
This raises a few questions.
1. Where do you draw the line between laughing something off and raising hell because it offends you or you are being offended on the behalf of a group.
2. Is it at all possible that we blind people take ourselves too seriously? When is this possible?
Ok, for those not sure of what's going on here:
The people are on this site are doing two things.
1. They are mocking Christian communities on the net by over-super-christianalizing, yes; I made up the word, their beliefs. For example: just look at their usernames and status. Go ahead, take a look. Christians, you have something to be offended about, the joke is on you.
2. They are mocking the paranoia with which some Christian churches view the world. For example: everything alien, unknown such as Braille, must be the work of Satan. Everything known, everything safe, everything we understand is the work of God.
Now, this is a funny premise, I'm sorry, but I was not offended by the original post.
However, there are some posters, which seem to be attacking blind people.
Not funny, not cool. And, this is why these types of jokes are usually banned from professional settings. Because the line between parody-satire and prejudice, is very thin.
This kind of shit on the internet just shows you how ignorant, norrow-minded, thick, hipocritical, and horrible people are. I don't see the point in getting angry over it. we know who we are, and the person who started all that garbage is an uninteligent idiot with too much time on their hands. they'll get what's coming to them one day, you watch.
i'd like to amend my last post by saying a thank you to the people who made an atempt at explaining to those lunatics how we use computers and Braille.
I actually know the girl who posted how we use computers and said that it was crazy what they were saying. She's a good friend of mine.
As for what we should do about getting offended or laughing it off, it is more a personal decision. If you want to laugh everything off, thats your choice. I feel, that when you start damaging character or talking about violence, its going over the edge.
Maybe we should drag the NFB in to this? if they can start a law suit over a movie about blind people, this might interest them too.
